Title: Vice President of Engineering

Company: Our client is a well-established Industrial Refrigeration service company in the New England market. Our client has provided a variety of services including: system designing, energy studies, performance evaluations, and system and equipment maintenance to the commercial and industrial HVAC/R industry for over 20 years. Working predominately in the food/beverage, pharmaceutical, and process industries, our client prides itself on delivering excellence to their customers efficiently and effectively. Currently, this company is seeking a Vice President of Engineering.

Position Purpose

The Vice President, Engineering will partner closely with the commercial and project management team to design and deliver high caliber refrigeration solutions.

The VP, Engineering will develop detailed design drawings, models and related specifications of mechanical equipment and designs, according to engineering sketches and design proposal specifications, including refrigeration, HVAC, piping, and controls systems. As Vice President of Engineering, your responsibilities and accountabilities include:

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Play a key role in proposal, bid development and installation for industrial ammonia/central refrigeration, commercial split systems and HVAC processes for industrial or commercial applications;

• Provide leadership to the engineering team, including mentoring opportunities;

• Review submittal drawings and data for compliance with design intent and/or contract documents;

• Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications, scope of work and standards specified by each project/client;

• Field measure existing facilities, as needed, and develop drawings for system installations;

• Create sketches and related design documents to complete the required refrigeration system and accommodate customer expectations;

• Assist/direct CAD Coordinator in producing 2D and 3D CAD/BIM drawings and document sets from sketches, existing drawings, equipment shop drawings and standard details for refrigeration, HVAC, piping and controls systems to be estimated, installed and/ or fabricated;

• Layout and dimensioning of equipment locations, pipe and ductwork routing, and support systems to eliminate interferences with other components, existing systems or other building elements, accommodate servicing requirement, and maximize system installation efficiency

• Assist/direct CAD Coordinator in producing/updating Process System Management (PSM), P&ID and isometric drawings based on project requirements; Assist/direct CAD Coordinator in producing accurate ‘As-Built’ drawings from field mark-ups upon completion of a construction project;

• Coordinate and consult with others on design, layout and/or detail components and systems to resolve design issues or installation constraints;

• Perform load calculations to determine the refrigeration requirements of the facilities;

• Perform heat transfer and thermodynamic analysis associated with sizing and selection of refrigeration equipment, piping and control valves;

• Relief Valve Calculations;

• Develop P&ID’s, flow diagrams, plans and specifications for refrigeration systems;

• Size piping and ductwork;

• Writing and continuous improvement of specifications and standards pertaining to refrigeration including piping, vessels, compressors, evaporators, condensers, valves, instrumentation, corrosion protection, and insulation;

• Work closely with company resources to assure projects are meeting technical and quality requirements.



He/she is a team-oriented, customer-focused and technically competent Engineer with a high sense of urgency. More specifically the Vice President, Engineering will have BS Degree in a mechanical discipline, ideally with current PE certification. Minimum 15 years engineering experience in industrial refrigerated systems

Skills and Special Requirements

• Demonstrated technical understanding of refrigeration;

• Proficiency in drafting/design programs, e.g. CAD and Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, etc;

• Basic to advanced knowledge of drafting programs;

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret construction drawings and P&ID’s;

• Skill in writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals;

• Experience in all aspects of project requirements including mechanical, electrical, and structural, including application of current codes;

• Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications;

• Knowledge of building materials, engineering standards and codes;

• Ability to work closely with others on a team as well as independently;

• Physical ability to access job sites, including some climbing and crawling;

• Capability of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast-paced workload;

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in evaluating situations;

• A high level of technical and spatial aptitude;

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines;

• Self-motivation and willingness to learn and embrace new ideas and technologies.
